Some clarifications



The first major step in exchangeing experiences at the level of local governments was taken in 2004. It was an International Gangneung Round Table of Mayors on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The present workshop is a logical follow-up to the Gangneung Round Table. It is very pleasant to see representatives of local governments from 17 cities, including the city-host, of various countries of the world (p2-p3).

Three discussion sesasions was programmed:

  1. Theoretical session Local Governance in Viable Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and Ensuring Sustainable Development at the local level - theoretical approach had 4 papers from experts.
  2. Current Situation and Challenges for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Context of Sustainable Development at the local level - practical approach had 17 city reports.
  3. Creation of Intercity Network for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was planned to debate and clarification of all practical aspects
