Ieva Pīgozne
Ieva Pigozne, PhD, art., is a culture and dress historian, working at the Institute of Latvian History, University of Latvia. She researches traditional Latvian peasants’ dress of the 18th and 19th century, as well as usage of folk dress in the politics and social life of the 20th and 21st century. She is the author of a monograph Colours and Their Meanings in 3rd–13th Century Baltic Dress (2020) and a popular scientific monograph Latvian Dress (2018). She has published more than 25 scientific articles on various aspects of Latvian dress, including its chronology, wedding attire, headdresses, aprons, and footwear, as well as reuse of garments, and mythological meanings of clothing. She gives public lectures on dress and culture history in Latvia and the Baltic region. She is also the initiator and member of the creative team of an oral history platform Stories of the Century hosted by the National History Museum of Latvia. Ieva Pigozne is currently working on her third monograph on the development of peasants’ dress in Eastern Latvia in the 19th century.
