Where is the skylark’s nest? In a golden spruce-tree. Where is the spruce-tree? An old man chopped it down and died. Where was he buried? Under a field furrow. Where is the furrow? Flowers (daisies) covered the grave. Where are the flowers? Girls have picked them. Where are the girls? In the field, on a stone. Where is the stone? Water rolled the stone away. Where is the water? Black bulls drank it up. Where are the bulls? The bear killed them. Where is the bear? The bear went away. Who went along with him? A master and a mistress in a coach, a blind coachman with a whip, a virgin maid with four children, a horse with iron shoe, a cow with four teats, a sheep with her lamb, a dog with three spokes, a cat with two wheels, a hen with two chicks, a cock with golden spurs.
