Oskar Koel

In the evening, we also visited the best-known musician of the neighbourhood, Oskar Koel. Without much ado, he brought his instrument and started to play. We filled up all our remaining tapes and agreed that O. Koel would help us to arrange the filming of New-Year Billy goat. (From the field work diary of I. Rüütel, June 3, 1961; Rüütel 2015: 173)

First, we visited Oskar Koel and discussed the details of filming the New-Year Billy goat. We agreed that we would film during Sunday afternoon. Before the filming Koel promised to record his playing with a fiddler from Audla village, with whom he had played at parties together. (From the field work diary of O. Kõiva, June 8, 1961; Rüütel 2015: 176)

In the afternoon, we record and film the instrumentalists: the concertina player O. Koel and the fiddler E[rich] Kask. We filmed Oskar Koel at the old swing site of Pahavalla village on the so-called musician's stone. The evening was taken up by the filming of New-Year Billy goat on the farm of my father-in-law. (From the field work diary of I. Rüütel, June 11, 1961; Rüütel 2015: 180)
