Villem Õunpuu was an outstanding Sõrve singer from Mässa village of Torgu municipality. (From the chapter "Foreword"; Rüütel 2014: 7)
The deep-sea sounding boys' song ("Coming to Toila") that tells of the adventures of young men travelling around and fathoming the sea, and which was recorded from Villem Õunpuu, is rare. In contrast to old seamen's songs, its melody has a wide pitch and complicated structure which reminds one of the 1930s hit songs of foreign origin.
