While going to visit Aleksander Nõgu, we first happened to arrive at his son-in-law Valter Loik's place. He is an intelligent and responsible person, and what's more, a singer. From him we got some information about Aleksander Nõgu's songs. Several of his songs were recorded and he also spoke about the dissemination of newer songs and their performance nowadays. (From the field work diary of O. Kõiva, June 8, 1961; Rüütel 2015: 177)
Two hilarious marching songs of the Defence Army of the Republic of Estonia by Valter Loik date back to the 1930s and are totally different from the previous ones. The lyrics of the first one come from Brandt's "Harju songbook" (the song of Rinaldiin the Robber), the other is a love song; both are sung to the tune of "Behind the sauna at the pond". The second one is supplemented with humorous stanzas used in various marching songs of the Defence Army of the Republic of Estonia ("Ay, Juku, Juku, till, till, till..." etc.). (From the chapter "Songs of historic events and soldiers' songs"; Rüütel 2015: 87)
